Wood fence replacement: why this veteran chose SLEEKFENCE.
When Andrew, a retired military veteran living in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, set out to replace his aging wood fence, he knew he needed a solution that could withstand the Island’s harsh weather. After noticing some sleek aluminum fences during a trip to the Lower Mainland, he started researching and found SLEEKFENCE.
This wasn’t just about aesthetics. For Andrew, it was about durability, ease, and peace of mind. Here’s why SLEEKFENCE became his clear choice for a wood fence replacement.
A fence that handles Vancouver Island’s weather
“I’m ex-military, and throughout my military career, I was posted to many different locations throughout the country,” Andrew shared. “So I’ve had the opportunity to own a few different houses with a few different styles of fences. Most of those fences were wooden fences. Actually, all those fences were wooden fences.”
“And throughout those years I had nothing but trouble maintaining them, including painting or staining, rotting fence posts, replacing fence posts, replacing panels or blown down panels.”
He knew he needed something stronger. “One of the big incentives for me to choose a SLEEKFENCE aluminum fence was the fact that I knew that durability would be 100 times better than a wooden fence.”
Here on Vancouver Island, wind is a serious issue. “With the high winds, it seems like my neighbors or my previous homes, I was constantly doing maintenance on blown down panels.”
So he made the switch. “The thought of having a fence that was aluminum where I could drop the posts pretty deep and know that the post wouldn’t run out, hence the panels wouldn’t fall over was a huge incentive to me.”
A DIY install that worked on rock
“I’ll be honest. I was extremely nervous about the install,” Andrew said. “I had the thought of having someone come and do an install for me, but unfortunately here on Vancouver Island it was a little difficult, especially during COVID, to find anyone willing to install.”
“So I decided to take a leap and try to do a self install. And one of the also factors is that I’m on quite a bit of rock here on my property. So I knew trying to get the machine into auger the holes would be impossible.”
“Between me and my sons we did a lot of hand digging and the fence was unbelievably easy to put up.”
“The intimidation of seeing an aluminum fence that if I made the cut wrong was going to be permanent, wasn’t as bad as I thought. Between a good steel blade for my saw and a little patience, it went up really smooth. And I’m quite happy with how the end product turned out.”
A low-maintenance fence that lasts
“I highly recommend SLEEKFENCE,” Andrew said. “The customer service is fantastic. Working with the company to make some changes, add a few panels, bring in a couple extra posts, longer posts for some of the transitions and the 45 degree angles that I decided to pivot onto went extremely smooth.”
“I love my fence. I haven’t had to do anything other than maybe give a quick rinse off with a hose on the fence and it’s now something that I know will last my lifetime and I don’t have to think twice about.”
