Aluminum fence installation cost:
Is an aluminum fence expensive? Upon consulting with one of Premium Fence Co’s finest project coordinators we have determined that the installation costs pertaining to an aluminum fence should be in the range of $25-$50 per linear foot. That’s quite the range but the reason for that is simple. Every yard is different and installation is harder in some yards than others. If the installer is having to work with a very steep or uneven yard, or one that is on a slope then the price is likely to be closer to $50. If the yard is flat then the price is likely to be closer to $25.
If you do the math for a yard that has a perimeter of 400 ft it starts to add up. It can seem like a lot but let’s look at some of the other factors involved here. Then we can discern if installing a contemporary aluminum fence is as expensive as it sounds.
Aluminum pricing vs other types of fencing:
Although the initial cost of an aluminum fence may seem more expensive, we need to consider things like maintenance and longevity as well. An aluminum fence is a long-term investment in your property and future. A steel fence is more expensive and overtime is guaranteed to rust. You never have to worry about your aluminum fence panels rusting because aluminum does not rust!
If we are talking about a cedar fence, it may cost less upfront, but a cedar fence can cost you thousands of dollars in maintenance long term due to rotting, repairs, and painting. Cedar fencing also has a max lifetime of 10-15 years. This means double the price after 20-30 years. It is important to note that aluminum is generally about 3 times stronger than wood.
If we are comparing aluminum to vinyl, then aluminum is going to handle hot and cold climates a lot better than vinyl will. Dark vinyl tends to melt and get sunspots/discoloration. Cold climates cause vinyl to get brittle and crack. Once this occurs, repairs can be tricky and expensive. Aluminum is a considerably stronger and more durable material than vinyl and offers structural advantages due to its build strength. Most vinyl fencing requires metal inserts in posts and rails, to add strength.
If we are comparing aluminum to composite, aluminum again is considerably stronger. Aluminum also looks better, for longer. Composite does not handle abuse very well, it tends to scratch easily. Climates with a lot of moisture and rainfall have proven that composite can become mushy/soggy and horizontal rails can sag within only 2 years. Composite is made up of various mixed materials (plastic, wood, etc.) which can cause inconsistencies in durability and finish. It is not a pure material. Composite is a step up from cedar, but it is unable to meet the benefits and quality of aluminum.
